Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions a family makes. Websites and brochures can tell you a lot, but they can’t show you how a classroom feels on a typical morning, how teachers interact with students, or whether your child’s face lights up when they walk through the door.
That is exactly why we are opening our doors. Raffles American School Jakarta will host an Open House for families on Saturday, December 5, 2026, at our campus in Lippo Thamrin, Central Jakarta. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure way to learn about our American curriculum, meet the people who run it, and get honest answers to the questions that are most important to your family.
Whether your child is starting pre-K, considering university applications, or anywhere in between, this guide will walk you through what to expect on the day, what distinguishes a Raffles American School education, and how to make the most of your visit.
Why Visiting a School in Person Makes All the Difference
Every school claims to put students first. The true difference is evident in the details that can only be noticed in person.
When you talk to the staff, you can quickly get a sense of the school culture. Do they listen? Can they clearly explain how they would help your child, not just children in general? An American education is based on inquiry, collaboration, and student voice, which are far easier to feel than to describe.
An Open Day provides that experience in a single visit, with all of the key people in one location.
What to Expect at the Raffles American School Open House
Our Open House is designed for the entire family, so both parents and children benefit from their visit. This is what we have planned.
A Guided Tour of Our Campus
Our team will show you around campus, so you can see the learning environments that your child would use on a daily basis. Feel free to pause, look closely, and ask questions along the way. We will also be holding our activities and presentations in the classrooms, giving you a real experience of what classes feel like.
Meet Our Head of School, Mr. Patrick Mayo
Mr. Patrick Mayo will discuss his vision for Raffles American School Jakarta, including what an American education looks like in Jakarta and how we help each student grow academically and personally. It’s a rare opportunity to learn about the school’s philosophy and priorities directly from its leader, as well as to ask him your own questions.
University Counselling
We are happy to welcome the university counsellor from our Malaysia campus to speak with our community about the pathway to university. This session will cover how students can prepare for the application process, what universities look for beyond grades, and how our advisory program supports each student’s individual goals.
One-on-One Admissions Consultation
Each family’s situation is unique, so a general presentation can only go so far. Our admissions team will meet with you individually to discuss your child’s age and current grade, their learning background, grade-level placement, English language support, the application process, and fees. You will leave with a clear picture of the next steps, but there is no obligation to take them.
Time to Connect With Our Community
Throughout your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with members of our team and get a sense of the welcoming, multicultural community that Raffles American School provides for students from a variety of backgrounds.
Fun Activities for Kids
While parents explore and ask questions, children are invited to participate in hands-on activities led by our educators. It’s a fun way for your child to visit a Raffles American School classroom, meet our teachers, and decide whether this is a place they’d like to learn. A child’s reaction can often reveal more to parents than any brochure.
An American Education, From Pre-K to Grade 12
- Early Childhood (ages 3–5): Our Early years program inspires learning through exploration and discovery. Young learners develop creativity, early critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning in a nurturing, play-rich environment.
- Elementary School (ages 6–10): The focus is on building learning skills alongside strong foundations in literacy and math. Through dynamic, hands-on instruction, students build the life skills, learning skills, and confidence they’ll rely on for years to come.
- Middle School (ages 11–13): Middle school is a time of big transitions. Daily advisory and counsellor support help students grow academically while developing social-emotional skills and a healthy sense of self.
- High School (ages 14–17): Students take on challenging Advanced Placement (AP) courses, build the habits needed for college-level work, and receive guidance from our college counselling team as they plan their next step.
Additionally, we approach the whole child directly through our General Learning Outcomes (GLOs): organization, communication, character, and thinking. Graduates receive a Raffles American School Jakarta Diploma, which opens doors to universities around the world.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit
A little preparation can go a long way. For older students: Which AP courses are offered, and when does college counseling begin? Preparation can go a long way. To make the most of your one-on-one consultation, bring your child’s most recent report card and any previous assessments, as well as a short list of the most important questions for your family. If you’re not sure where to begin, here are a few that we hear frequently:
- Which grade will my child be placed in, and how is placement decided?
- What English language support is available if my child needs it?
- How large are the classes in my child’s grade?
- How do teachers communicate with parents and share progress?
- Which sports, arts, and co-curricular activities can my child join?
- For older students: Which AP courses are offered, and when does college counseling begin?
Most importantly, bring your child. Watch how they respond to the classrooms, the teachers, and the activities. Their instincts are one of the best guides you have.
Special Offer!
